Life is just like a roller-coaster, you never know what’s going to happen next. There are sharp turns, upside down loops, and a steep uphill track. Those sharp turns and upside down loops are usually unexpected and go by really fast. You don’t know what might happen in the next second of your life, the only thing you can do it enjoy the ride.
In the Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantés was in the ride of his life. He had it all, a beautiful fiance, he was about to become the captain of a ship, and he was well-liked, however that didn’t stop life from throwing a a sharp turn, followed by a loop. He before he could get married or become a captain, he was arrested and sent to jail. And just like that his life was changed forever. However, during his jail sentence, he met Abbé Faria, a priest that became a companion to Edmond. The two became very close, and he even told Edmond about a hidden treasure that was sure to be worth a plethora amount of money. They planned to escape prison together, but Abbé Faria fell ill and died before they could make it out. However, Edmond made it out of prison and obtained the treasure that Faria had told him about. If he had not gone to jail, he wouldn’t have met Faria, and thus would not have become wealthy. Something unexpected brought a pleasant surprise in Edmond’s life.
Much like how Edmond got something good out of one of life’s shocking twists, Cinderella also was gifted with a unexpected blessing as an indirect result from her life’s sharp turn. Cinderella was a happy little girl, until her father married an evil women with two daughters. When he father suddenly died, Cinderella was left all alone with he wicked stepmother and two snobby stepsisters. As if feeling alone wasn’t bad enough, her stepmother decided that Cinderella had to do all the house chores, basically becoming the house slave. Right when Cinderella started to feel hopeless, life took another sharp turn and offered her an opportunity to meet the prince. After many struggles, she finally got to meet the prince and they fell in love, and you guess it, lived happily ever after. If it weren’t for all the unexpected things that happened to Cinderella, she wouldn’t have met and fell in love with the man of her dreams.
Both Edmond and Cinderella clung on tight to their seats as life took them through sharp turns and loops, and in the end, they both got something greater than they could have expected. You can never know what life has in store for you, but you can always look on the bright side and make the best out of any situation. Edmond enjoyed his ride by making a new friend, and Cinderella enjoyed her ride by making friends with the animals in the house. If you don’t try to enjoy the ride, you could miss out on so many things. Just like any roller-coaster, life can be a thrill if you make it one. It’s your choice. So grab some friends, and enjoy the ride.
(Another person who found something great on their roller coaster is Paul Baumer from All Quiet on the Western Front. He was a soldier in World War I who had a great misconception of the war. He never expected it to be as gruesome and horrible as it really was, but he found something incredible while serving his country. He found esprit de corps, spirit of the group. The relationships he built were unlike any other. These men saw everything together, from rotting corpses to men getting shot right in front of them. The bond they had was stronger and more incredible than any other bond that Paul could have made. Even through his life’s sharpest turns and biggest loops, he managed to find something beautiful.)
